THE BAPTISM IN THE SPIRIT (And The Gift Of Tongues)

Kinross Christian Fellowship

Final Words

All of the above has its roots primarily in Scripture and can therefore be easily checked, examined and ratified - I sincerely hope you do so. It is also based on the experiences of two mature - both in age and the faith - Christians. It is my hope and prayer that it may be of use to some, particularly those who are young in the faith, new Christians on the narrow path; but also for those whose Christian backgrounds have severely limited the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

This booklet is not and never was intended as a set of rules or recommendations, it is written only as a guide in an attempt to regain the simplicity of the Word by removing the undergrowth of denominational priorities, and over-emphasis on particular gifts. To iterate, the gift of Tongues has been given undue prominence purely because of the over-importance given to it by both supporters and antagonists, and the false assumption that without Tongues there is no proof of Baptism in The Holy Spirit. It is a simple gift available to all, to accept or reject.

But we must remain aware that in this Christian life we lead, everything we need to walk the narrow path is given to us, given to us in abundance, to use and to enjoy. However, there is a greater purpose, God's purpose, which is the glorification of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the expansion of His Kingdom. We are here, fully equipped, with one purpose - to lead others into our experience which is described so beautifully in, Colossians 1:13 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.

God trusts us, an incomprehensible thought, He trusts us with His equipping, and so gives us the responsibility of carrying out His Great Commission.

Matthew 28:19-20. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Ask for The Holy Spirit to enter your life and take complete control. Desire the gifts Father lays on your heart. And rejoice in the words Jesus tells each one of us in, Luke 12:48b Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.

Finally, there is only one way for understanding, and the Psalmist says it succinctly and simply. Psalm 53:2 God looks down from heaven on the human race to see if there is one who is wise, one who seeks God.
The absolute and ultimate wisdom.

And if you are still wavering, still troubled by a trace of doubt, then perhaps the brother of Jesus, may help.

James 1:5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticising, and it will be given to him.

And absolutely, and indisputably, we always have the same resource as David;
Help LORD. Psalm 12:1
Be blessed, for remember the words of Peter the Apostle;
1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.

Amen

Acknowledgments and thanks.

My sincere thanks to Caroline for her original work, to Fiona and Jane who between them picked up nearly every tiny typo and error, and offered advice and counsel (some of which was actually heeded!), and gave so much encouragement. Second only to Father, major thanks must and will go to Sheila who knows my heart better than anyone (including me) and told me where I wasn't being true to myself and, more importantly, true to God.

It had been my heartfelt hope and desire to offer a KISS booklet (Page 20), but to my exasperation it has not been as simple as I imagined it would be. Being simple is quite, quite complicated, so in one respect this short work may be considered a compromise - yet not, I assure you, in the content. Bearing this in mind, if you have any difficulty at all with any of my conclusions, meanderings or theology, please ask. However, you should understand, if ever there is need for a reprint, your name may also appear as one of those responsible!

Finally, absolute and sincere thanks to the disparate group known as the Kinross Christian Fellowship, to Duncan, Fiona and Lionel, Elders blessed by God to serve and bless the Fellowship - and me - for supporting this work.

All my love, and may our gracious God bless each one of you with the most wonderful of His promises; Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Peter March 2013
